Maintenance Checklist for Motorhome Owners

When you own a motorhome, maintenance is extremely important if you want to avoid problems with your vehicle.

Maintenance is vital for all types of vehicle owners, especially those who rely on their vehicles for work, such as couriers.

Although you likely don’t rely on your motorhome for work, you still want to take any steps you can in order to keep it running well. With this in mind below are some essential motorhome maintenance checks to make.

Things to check regularly

  • Battery – If you only use your motorhome occasionally then it’s very easy to let the battery go flat due to under use. You should aim to take your motorhome out about once a week to avoid this problem. This is especially true during the winter months.
  • Tyre pressure – Another thing you should check regularly is the tyre pressure. The correct tyre pressure  is extremely important for large vehicles since deflated tyres are not only unsafe but mean you’ll eat up a lot more fuel.

Things to check before a long trip

  • Electricals – You should always check all the electricals in your motorhome before setting off on a long journey, including the lights and wipers.
  • Under the bonnet – You should also check under the bonnet before every trip to ensure that everything is as it should be and the fluid levels are good.
  • Water system – Try running the taps and flushing the toilet before you set off. The last thing you want is to get to your destination only to find out the water system in your motorhome isn’t working.

Keeping your motorhome safe

  • Park safely – You should always ensure that your motorhome is parked safely. This will help to reduce the chance of it being broken into or stolen.
  • Get the right insurance policy – Getting the right insurance policy is one of the best ways to protect your motorhome. A good motorhome insurance policy will cover you for road risks, fire, theft and breakdowns.
  • Install a GPS tracker – If your motorhome was stolen then you’d want to be able to recover it. One of the best ways to ensure this happens is by installing a GPS tracker. This will make it much easier for the police to locate your vehicle if it is stolen.
